Lost in Presidio

Lost in Presidio

...but found by the desert.

Several years ago,
if you were in Presidio, Texas
on a dusty day in May,
we might've had lunch together
at a busy Mexican restaurant.

You probably noticed my blue car,
and wondered how an Ohioan
had wandered so far from home.

And I probably did nothing
to hide the fact that I was lost,
and glad to find a place to eat.

Could you tell it was my birthday?
And did you order the chicken mole?
I remember how good it tasted,
but doubt I'll ever go back for more.

If you ever find happiness by hunting for it,
you will find it, as the old woman did her lost spectacles,
safe on her own nose all the time.
