Going on a Spiritual Journey

Be at peace
and rest assured.
Maybe not today,
but tomorrow
will be a new day when
everything will be different.

Everything.

Resolve to seek the truth.
Truth is a spark in the darkness.
Truth is a piece of stale bread
that tastes like heaven to those
grown tired of baby food.

But truth is not the answer.
It’s only a lodestar,
a nighttime companion,
on the way to somewhere else.

Going on a spiritual journey,
from here to the everywhere,
isn’t for the frightened or content.

Be sure to put some salt in your bag,
right next to your sense of humor.
Don’t forget to pack the kind of love
that grows under harsh conditions.

You’ll need all you can muster,
and whatever wisdom
experience has given you.
