Prayer for Our Fireside Council

Fire:
the order of this day
                  is fire.

But first comes the rain.

Here comes the rain
to end the late summer drought

- the rain heralding the Fall
                  with its shortened days,
                  nippy nights and
                  breezy lullabies sung
                  so sweetly to the trees.

Today:
we will build a fire
and place within it
the dead wood
occupying too much space
in our hearts and minds

- the dead wood
                  that can only be burned
                  and by flame transformed
into the heat that awakens the soul.

Through this fire and water
I pray for patience

- the patience that may fill
                  the space between the logs
and give depth to my breath
                  as it lightens my load.
