Secret of Secrets

Why do I feal so uneasy?
I am filled with an eagerness
to be finished with this day.

There’s so much to do and
so little needing to be done.

I wish my life away,
praying and hoping
for the moment it will all flow
                  easily and back to me.

Oh, secret of secrets!

You are hiding in plain sight.
Children see you bright as the sun.
The trees make shade for you.
The birds sing you their songs.

Every day you remind me
there’s no need for me to go
on such an arduous journey
                  outward,
                  over,
                  and beyond.

Only stillness stifles
my longing for reason.

Only breath conceives
the divine presence within me.
